Luis Leite is a leading representative of the hybridism between classical and popular styles of music. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he combines the polished phrasing of the classical guitar with the energy and spontaneity of Brazilian popular guitar.

At the age of 19, Luis won first place in the national guitar competitions "Prêmio Sérgio Abreu" in Rio de Janeiro and "Concurso Nacional Souza Lima" in São Paulo. He went on to win first place in the international guitar competitions "John Duarte International Guitar Competition" in Austria and "Ivor Mairants International Guitar Competition" in London. In the field of popular music, he was the winner of the 11th BDMG Prize for instrumental music.

Luis studied classical guitar with Maestro Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy and later at the renowned University of Music in Vienna under Professor Alvaro Pierri. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in "Musical Performance - Classical Guitar" from the University of Music in Vienna, both with distinction and excellence. He also holds a PhD in Music on musical improvisation and a Post-Doctorate in Music on new improvisation languages.

Upon returning to Brazil, Luis took up the guitar chair at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora and created the country's first hybrid Bachelor's program in Guitar, aimed at training guitarists with a modern profile that blends the skills of a classical and popular guitarist. Since then, his students have won numerous awards in both classical and popular categories.

As a composer, Luis has numerous works to his name and has recorded three full albums of original works for guitar: "Mundo Urbano," "Ostinato," and "Vento Sul." His album "Vento Sul" was repeatedly cited by critics as one of the best releases of 2018. With a broad range of musical performance styles, Luis's scope extends from traditional choro to experimental jazz, from early music to contemporary music, as well as various chamber formations and popular music groups.

Luis has performed as a soloist in over 30 countries and is currently dedicated to his solo project and small formations, such as duos with singer Mônica Salmaso and violinist Márcio Sanchez, among others.
