MARIA STAMENKOVITCH HERRANZ / SPAIN

Maria Stamenkovic Herranz is a Serbian-Spanish performance artist, who graduated from the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London and Maggie Flanigan Acting Studio in New York.
Stamenkovic Herranz  uses various artistic mediums and explores intercultural dynamics to illuminate the subtle ways in which we form and are formed by the interpersonal. By first revealing the hidden structures we create to feel safe that, in turn, limit us, her oeuvre a path of return, beyond nation states and borders, back to the truest sense of home--the body itself.  Engaged in a symbiotic relationship with the time and place in which she performs, her work is a celebration of uncovering the power of the resilient body.
 
Her personal works have been shown internationally and include: This Mortal House (Sakip Sabanci Museum, Istanbul 2020), Medea: Impulse & Ear (Benaki Museum, Athens 2016), Aelita (Sleep No More, New York 2012), Trigger (Teatro Lliura, Barcelona 2008), etc. Along with her career as a performing artist she has also collaborated and toured in acclaimed venues with Jan Fabre (Cour d'Honneur Palais de Papes, Je Suis Sang & History of Tears), Marina Abramovic (MoMa, The Artist is Present), Deborah Kampmeier (Split, Sarasota Film Festival) amongst others.
